There he wrote many songs and developed his craft. He left the city in 2006 to record his first album “Son Of Lars” in small town Iowa and to tour the country. He now resides in Minneapolis and is working on his second album. He describes his music as, "emotionally driven, strange and unique folk music with eclectic surprises at every turn." 2.
Matt Larson (Illinois) Matt Larson is determined to avoid the cliché of the sullen, self-involved singer song-writer, both in his music and in his on-stage demeanor. He is thought provoking yet fun, intelligent yet unpretentious. The optimistic, affable tone that typifies his music is bal-anced and enriched by an underlying complexity and subtlety that make his songs more than a fleeting, superficial pleasure. In concert, he uses his humor, gregarious nature and thoroughly eclectic repertoire of cover tunes to awake and engage everyone within earshot, going so far as to make members of the audience the focus of the show.
Matt has been known to accompany his vocals with acoustic guitar, piano, loops, programming, banjo and mandolin. But whatever instrument he chooses, it is the warmth and wit expressed through his voice that reaches out and draws his audience in. Randy Kelly of Appalachian State University said, "Matt Larson's easy yet engaging performance at our cafe kept our crowd listening rather than chatting..which is rare!" "Matt Larson was a big hit on our campus! He's great to work with and an all around good guy. The students really seemed to enjoy his music, style, and humor. He took a cafeteria show and made it a great event! I've already had students asking when he can come back." - Kim Day Spartanburg Methodist University Student Activities Director Matt thoroughly enjoys the creative process.
This is evidenced by the fact that he did the tracking, engineering, mixing, and producing of his most recent full length record entitled "This Living Room". In addition to songwriting and performing Matt says that he’s drawn to just about anything that involves creativity. He’s been an extra in a film, recently auditioned for various voice-over parts for a new cartoon, and plans to shoot another music video during the month of December 2006. "I'm passionate about learning and creating.
I'm also a broke indie musician. Those two things lend themselves well to doing things yourself", said Matt. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
