After exploring in painting, photography and video they start to experiment with abstract and tribal sounds based on improvisation, utilizing the existing mediums to create their unique sound. Their music oscillate in parallel with organic, electronic and even non-conventional instruments, exploring in composition, structure, rhythm, dissonance and unorthodox methods of performing and recording in digital and analog process. All of the artwork, photography, design, music videos, including album covers, T-shirts and their websites are created by the members of mttmb themselves. They also organize Art exhibitions collectivelly and individually, which led them to create a digital art gallery on the internet: Exponline.

In 2003 they launched their own independent music label: DDC (Dientes de canibal). On September 9th 2006, Matotumba released its first official full-length album titled "imbuiah".
