Inspired by classic 1960's song-writing (The Beach Boys, The Velvet Underground) through to the sprawling epics of Australia's The Dirty Three the band balances out it's songs with passages of improvisation, sometimes turning a 3 minute pop song into a 10 minute jam. Their previous releases have included Ready for the Dance (Oak Park Records, 2001) and Diving the Wreck (Involve Records, 2004). In UK, The Wire magazine praised Ready for the Dance's "prominent, ragged guitars ... amassing then releasing vivid, intense bursts of energy". In 2004 MarineVille received a grant from Creative New Zealand to make their second album Diving the Wreck (Involve Records). Writing in Staple magazine Steve Kerr said ‘...

Based on the songs of singer/songwriter/guitarist Mark Williams the band currently includes Drummer Greg Cairns (ex-Verlaines, King Loser), bassist Rebecca Rice (ex-National Youth Choir) and keyboard player Jeremy Coubrough (Signer, The Bright Colours).
