Other names also pop up such as Lisa Germano, Kristin Hersh, Lois, Liz Phair or Cat Power which combine an "easy" association of ideas: "female –sui generis- singer and songwriter, more or less alternative, who composes Rock that sounds like Folk, or Folk that sounds like Rock…so this may be what it sound like". And once again, we come back to the beginning: We talk about Marina Gallardo without talking about her. This is the big mistake. Because in her first album, this 23 year old girl from Cadiz, speaks by herself completely. With her own voice.
With authority. With an unique artistic maturity for a debutant or a person at her age. Paco Loco and Remate may have played most of the instruments of the album – second guitar, bass, electric violin, synthesizer, shaker, organ, pedal steel, etc. except for drums which were performed by Fernando Cañas, however, they seem to have followed Marina's plan at all times.
This is an album in which the band seems to be another instrument that the artist uses to express her personality, her music and her world. Sneaking scratches of dry rock - "X Song", "Waved In The Tree", or "In a Frame Of My Real Temp"- in an album which is more than a caress "Working To Speak" is a debut that nobody expected but that everyone welcomes.
