Marcelo Vidal Diaz was born in Rancagua, Chile, and began his study of the guitar in 1989 at the National Conservatory of Music in Santiago under Professor Luis Lopez. In 1993, he continued his studies under Professor Luis Orlandini at the University of Chile graduating with distinction in the summer of 1996 as "Intérprete Superior en Guitarra". In 1993, he continued his studies under Professor Luis Orlandini at the University of Chile graduating with distinction in the summer of 1996 as "Intérprete Superior en Guitarra". In addition, he has attended courses in Latin American music with Alirio Díaz and Leo Brouwer in Caracas, Venezuela. In the autumn of 1997, he received a bursary from the German Academic Exchange Programme and came to Germany where he studied at the Music Conservatory in Cologne under Professor Roberto Aussel. In July 2000, he was awarded his second diploma as a guitarist. Marcelo Vidal has played as a soloist in concerts with orchestras in Argentinia, Brasil and Germany and has won prizes in important competitions, in particular the "Alirio Díaz" in Venezuela, the "Kutna Hora" in the Czech Republic and the "Citá de Mottola" in Italy.

He now lives in Cologne, Germany, and gives concerts in Europe and Latin America. Furthermore, since 1996 Marcelo Vidal has been head of the Archive for Traditional Music at the Regional Museum in Rancagua, Chile, and in this capacity regularly organizes workshops, seminars and concerts for traditional music. In conjunction with folk musicians he has created several projects, which have been honoured and sponsored by the Chilean Ministry for Culture. Read more on Last.fm.
