Josek K split in 1981 whereupon Malcolm joined Orange Juice for their most successful period: the Rip It Up LP & Texas Fever mini-LP. In 1983, he left Orange Juice to join up with Roddy Frame & Aztec Camera to record and tour for their second album, Knife.

He proceeded to do the same with other artists as well, namely Blancmange, Momus, Dave Graney (the Moodists), and Paul Haig (Josef K's lead vocalist). He released a number of solo recordings throughout the '90's, recorded with friends Steven Daly (ex-Orange Juice), Robert Vickers (ex-Go Betweens), and Spike Priggen (ex-Caroline Know), amongst others. Hopefully he will have more recordings available soon.
