Lustfaust

Lustfaust were an experimental noise band originally active in West Berlin during the late seventies and early 1980s. They have since resurfaced and reformed coinciding with several exhibitions of their fan's 'tape art' curated by Jamie Shovlin and taken from the collections of Mike Harte and Murray Ward. The original line-up formed in Berlin in 1976 and featured Japanese jazz drummer Matsushita 'Bobby' Kazuki, Belgian guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Guido van Baelen, German bassist Hans Berger and California-born German/American Peter Kruger. The band was a curiously international mixture, initially formed through a mutual distaste for the inoffensive music that, as session musicians, it was for the most part their job to produce. They freaked out and rocked out with cement mixers and guitars and an aggressive on-stage presence breaking up and reforming regularly whilst losing members and picking up Johnny Oracle and Nick Castle along the way.

They also pioneered the burgeoning cassette culture of the late seventies until finally imploding in 1981. Upon being 're-discovered' by artists Jamie Shovlin, Mike Harte and Murray Ward, Guido van Baelen saw an opportunity for the music to gain the attention it deserved but Peter Kruger had no interest in letting the material ever see the light of day again. In late 2006, Schneider TM contacted Peter Kruger which ultimately led to a suprising collaboration as Schneider TM und Lustfaust releasing a 7" on MirrorWorldMusic. In 2007 Jamie Shovlin's gallery, Haunch of Venison, invited Schneider TM und Lustfaust to headline the opening of their Berlin gallery space and a band was quickly assembled featuring Guido van Baelen, Dirk Dresselhaus (Schneider TM, Angel, Locust Fudge, Hip Young Things, Mr. Schmuck's Farm), Michael Beckett (Kptmichigan, The Beautiful New Born Children, Tuesday Weld, The Eightfold Model, Super Reverb, Murray Ward (The Failed NASA Experiment, Ward, Warner/Ward, Warner/Ward/Teledu, dj_spleenbaby, Black Step-Dad), Euan Rodger (Black Carrot, Dragon Or Emperor, Superbompers Band, The Copperpot Journals, Fabulous Foxes) and Steve Linehan (Fredrick Stanley Star). From 2008 they have resumed gigging and recording - performing at the ICA, the Big Chill Festival and most recently for Artissima in Torino. Lustfaust now draws from a revolving line-up of Peter Kruger, Guido van Baelen, Murray Ward, Euan Rodger, Steve Linehan, Alex Williams (Fredrick Stanley Star), Peacho (Wooden Veil, Superbompers Band), Jamie Shovlin (Womb), Patrick Farmer (The Good Anna, Designer Babies, Birmingham Improvisers’ Orchestra, Call it a Clunes, Last of the Real Hardmen), Eleanor Mills and Peter Headset Disco.
