http://www.longtriphome.com Long Trip Home, formed in the fall of 2008, is composed of four roommates who live in an old house in Northeast Minneapolis, and a good friend who lives in Eau Claire. The members of the band are all sophomore students going to school at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Ultimately, the goal of Long Trip Home is to create large spaces within each song, and allow the listener or audience member to fill it in with a character, feeling, memory, pain, joy, or love of their choice. The work of Long Trip Home is continued and recreated with every listen.

The band’s debut CD, Prairie Lake, was recorded in the winter of 2009. Before the recording began, Joe Kruse (songwriter/vocals/piano) returned to his hometown, La Crosse, WI, over Christmas and recorded several conversations using the microphone built into his computer. He talked with the people he was closest to and people who best represented his home. Unexpectedly and beautifully these recorded words became elegant testimonies of pain, dehumanization, loneliness, love, friendship, and the ability to let the world go and be at peace.

Joe brought the recordings back to Minneapolis and began to fit the audio into Long Trip Home’s work. They fit perfectly, and the recording of Prairie Lake began. The CD was recorded in the basement of the old house in Northeast Minneapolis and was produced and engineered by a very generous friend who attends IPR. The recording sessions were permeated with the presence of good friends, laughing, and creative impulses.

A strength of the CD, as a result of its recording and songwriting, is its simplicity. From this simplicity comes an intense intimacy and very genuine humanity. Prairie Lake was created to breath and to remain captivating even when it strips down to one simple sound. Read more on Last.fm.
