Living With Hermits

Justin Bowsher began Living With Hermits as a way to make the music without a band and without bearing a generic solo artist name. Living With Hermits is his "side-project" that has never really been on the side of anything. Justin Bowsher began Living With Hermits as a way to make the music without a band and without bearing a generic solo artist name. Living With Hermits is his "side-project" that has never really been on the side of anything. Justin has always been drawn to experimental music, and he claims influences from various IDM, shoegaze, ambient, and indie-pop artists. The three artists he most actively tries to emulate are Sigur Ros, Sufjan Stevens, and Boards of Canada, and though he comes nowhere near the originality that these artists have achieved, his music does bear the marks of their respective sounds.

Justin's first album was Rook, and was released for download through somewherecold.com it was an awkward stab at several styles at once, drawing from Ester Drang and other indie artists. While it was anything but cohesive, Justin was able to feel his way through the writing/recording process, and began to establish a vague musical and vocal style. Justin soon ventured well into the genre of electronic music. On top of his strong draw to the genre, he found production to be much less of a hassle.

Clicking buttons for hours was easier to him than setting up microphones for take after take. In the spring of 2006, Apropos was released, a three song ep of dance/electronica pieces. His back catalogue has been growing, and seeing daylight only through cdrs burnt for friends. He would love to get on a label, though he fears the fact that he hardly ever performs live would be a largely negative factor.

Regardless, he ceaselessly tinkers away at his computer, making music for his own listening pleasure. He's doing his best to get it out there. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
