Layhill

Layhill was formed in January of 2003 by four best friends, passionate about music, who decided to learn instruments and create their own sound. The name Layhill comes from the Layhill area in Silver Spring where we all live and went to Blake High School together. The music we make doesn't really fall under a certain genre, but we list it as "alternative rock," but it's definitely something you won't hear on the radio these days. The name Layhill comes from the Layhill area in Silver Spring where we all live and went to Blake High School together. The music we make doesn't really fall under a certain genre, but we list it as "alternative rock," but it's definitely something you won't hear on the radio these days. It can best be described as upbeat with a mix of crunchy and twangy guitars that can be trippy at times, grooving bass lines, sweet harmonies and flow/rap vocals. Our influences range from 90s grunge rock to metal to funk to reggae to jam rock to indie rock.

Bottom line: we're here to make positive, energetic, and unique music for all to enjoy. No concepts, gimmicks, etc. In our three-year history, we have had a number of great accomplishments. We have played and hosted the Burb Fest in Rockville, MD, showcasing the best of local music in a neighborhood setting. We have played Fletchers in Fells Point on numerous occasions, including 98 Rocks Noise In The Basement and a Halloween Show in 2004.

In addition to playing most clubs in Baltimore, we are regulars at Towson University and have played their TigerFest, an outdoor festival show held every spring. In May of 2005, we released our first full length LP, The Barbershop Quartet. In second half of 2006 we plan on unleashing some fresh songs that fortify the sound we have and add new elements.
