Spawned in the wretched shithole known as Parkersburg, W.V. Last Day Dawning is an experimental heavy rock band comprised of Four members: Marc Noland(ex-can't see straight, akeldama/the lost, the torture store) on guitar and backup vocal; Matt Buchanan(ex-yesterday's ashes/greyface, current-the torture store) on drums; Josh Mays(ex-a shattered soul/can't see straight) on lead vocal; Joe Wallbrown (ex-a shattered soul/akeldama/liecus) on bass. The band itself was formed in mid 2008 when Noland and Mays parted ways with their can't see straight counterparts in search of a new project in which they could receive more creative freedom to compose a more groove-oriented, riff-based style of heavy rock. the idea for the band basically happened on a whim, as Buchanan was hanging out waiting to watch Noland and Mays practice with their former band, as was chronically a problem with the band, scheduling conflicts ensued and practice was cancelled for the evening.

Alcohol began to flow and eventually someone said "fuck it, lets go downstairs and jam". the chemistry was immediate, it felt as if they had been jamming together for ages. After that night the three began to write songs during downtime from their other projects. Soon thereafter, Mays and Noland decided mutually with the members of their previous project to go their separate ways.

After the split it was only natural to move forward with this new project, As of that point, still unnamed. The call was made to long time friend Joe Wallbrown, who had recently parted ways with his former outfit as well, to handle the low-end duties. Wallbrown's bass style complimented the guitar sound Noland was shooting for perfectly and the two began writing songs together with the hand of Buchanan guiding the arrangements and overall structure of the songs with his precise and very seasoned percussion. At this point the search for a name had heated up and Mays was given a suggestion by a co-worker, the band liked and they all agreed on the name "Last Day Dawning".

by keeping the song structures simple and catchy for the most part, the band made writing vocals a breeze and wrote their first five songs(minivan, so serene as she bleeds, zombie call, every shot i take, and the liar's noose) in no time.
