His talent and interest continued to grow and flourish and opened the door for him to work with and write for Gospel Artist Betty Burnes Lee; The True Praise Youth Chorale and, Savannah State University's Wesleyan Gospel Choir. In 2005 Korey accepted an exciting teaching position at Atlanta’s New Schools at Carver – School of the Arts. Carver was considered one of the worst schools in Atlanta at the time and had one of the worst dropout rates in the Country. Under a new program the school would be broken up into four smaller schools where Korey was invited to develop a brand new curriculum as the Music Technology and Audio Recording Instructor. Korey poured his heart and soul into developing the curriculum for his students and helped them soar in the process.
Bowie’s 2009 senior class will be the first students to graduate from the four year music curriculum that he designed. “Korey is an artist and educator who performs and teaches with passion. He is truly a modern day ‘Picasso’ of music.” Dr. Marvin A. Pryor – Principal - Carver School of the Arts In 2006, Korey was presented with the exciting opportunity to spearhead the youth music department as Assistant Minister of Music at New Mercies Christian Church, a burgeoning new Church launched by Sr.
Pastor Jesse Curney, III in Lilburn, Georgia. Korey soared in this position and his passion for youth ministry and his exciting approach to music and ministry helped the youth choir to swell. In 2008, Korey was lead to a new church home at Life Church in Atlanta where he currently serves as the Worship and Arts Pastor. It was during this season that Korey began to soul search and realized that God had invested many talents in him and he was not fully using the gifts and talents that he had been blessed with. For years Korey had written hundreds of songs and kept them locked inside his computer, never sharing the full talents that God had invested in him with the world.
“I began to realize that I was the like the man in the parable of talents [see Matt 25; 14-30] who hid his talent that God invested in him,” states Korey. “I realized that God invested talents in me so I would in turn invest them back to Him, by sharing my talents with the world.” “Korey is both gifted and anointed to lead this generation. His praise and worship comes out of his personal experience with Christ and not from his keyboard.” Pastor Chris Etheridge, Life Church Atlanta Korey did just that. In the Fall of 2008 Korey launched Invested Music Group and in May 2009 will release his self penned and produced debut LP, Life and Love, Vol.
1: Songs of the Heart, on his Invested Music Group Label. “I called it Life and Love, Volume 1 because I have so many songs and stories that have been stored away about the life that God has blessed me with and the love that I feel inside towards Him and my family. With all that I have been blessed with, I couldn’t just put it on one volume,” he states. Korey and his Invested team launched a strategic viral campaign utilizing social networking sites Facebook and Myspace to rally supporters together for his debut release.
He also garnered support from his students at Carver to help with the marketing efforts in spreading the word about the project. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
