He gave up the classical music field to become a member of the Korean pop group, Flower in the mid- 1990's. He served two years in the Korean Military, which is mandatory for all Korean young men.

After his military service, he recorded his first solo album, (Newborn-2004), before rejoining Flower. Ko Yu-Jin has almost a three octave vocal range, and has impersonated many of his contemporaries in the pop music field, both male and female. He can sing "true" soprano, even though he is not a "castrato", but speaks in a normal masculine vocal range. After the break-up of Flower, in 2006, Ko Yu-Jin went on to launch a solo career releasing two more albums and a single.
