For the last three years, Kirkland has stared down the challenge and miles of Midwest highway; logging over 150 shows a year in support of their 2007 self-funded, self-titled EP and 2009’s “When You Got It, You Got It.” Find the latter on iTunes. The band captured their first dose of national notice in 2007 at a jam-packed Red Gorilla SXSW showcase at the Chuggin’ Monkey in Austin, TX. Fueled by buzz, Kirkland rode the van into 2008, with a month long DIY tour of Ohio, Tennessee, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan and Illinois. Chicago’s commotion came calling and, in 2009, the city became the band’s new, permanent home.
Before they were settled, Kirkland played two sold-out shows at Angels and Kings, a world renowned rock club – others in New York City and Barcelona – opened by Pete Wentz and Perez Hilton (look it up). Word of the live show spread from the Loop to Lincoln Park and Kirkland closed ’09 with gigs at Subterranean, Elbo Room and Reggie’s Rock Club on State Street. In early 2010, after months of relentless promotion and playing, Kirkland landed an opportunity to work with Emmy Award winning JBTV and Gibson (yes, that Gibson) to organize and lead a 30-band Chicago brigade back into Austin, TX during SXSW. The band returns as a co-headliner of the 2010 ‘SXCHI’ showcase at the Trophy Room in the heart of the legendary 6th Street.
Kirkland is actively growing an exciting (and excited) network of fans, both at shows and online. Looking ahead to the the spaces between in the Summer of 2010, the band aims to write and record their full length follow-up to “If You Got It..” Don’t forget Dixon; home of Ronald Reagan AND Kirkland. One of them will be in your town soon... http://www.myspace.com/kirkland Read more on Last.fm.
