The word Hawniyaz comes from Kurdish word meaning 'together' or 'for one another.' The Hawniyaz Ensemble originated during a spontaneous meeting at the Morgenland Festival Osnabruck. The ensemble is comprised of Kurdish singer Aynur, legendary kamancheh virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor, jazz pianist Salman Gambarov and tembur player Cemil Qocgiri.
