Justin Taylor (born 1984) is a Canadian composer. Taylor was born in 1984 in Brandon, Manitoba. His family moved almost immediately to St. Albert, Alberta then a few months later to Red Deer, Alberta.

In his formative early years, Taylor started forming his rapport with music by listening to the stereo in his families living room with his mom. This involved listening to many classical works, including the work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig Van Beethoven. One of Taylor's favourite musicians growing up was Brian Wilson. In 1988 Taylor's family moved to the Greater Toronto area. This was when Taylor expressed an interest in studying music.

He started studying with Jazz pianist Alf Coward, who had previously been a student of the great jazz pianist Oscar Peterson. Coward also hosted the first variety TV show on the CBC in the 1950s. Taylor studied with Coward until 1999. Taylor is widely recognized for using polytonality and modal harmonies in his compositions. He is a leading composer in the revitalization of polytonality in the 21st century, after decades of composers experimenting with minimalism.

Taylor's music has been performed at Beethovenfest in Bonn, Germany as well as various new music festivals around the globe. He has written many works for notable musicians in the classical field, such as pianist Helene Grimaud and conductor Alun Francis. Taylor also writes for amateur musicians and friends and is one of the most performed living Canadian composers. Read more on Last.fm.
