Justin Raines, 27, is a music composer from Las Cruces, NM. He graduated from New Mexico State University with my degree in Music Theory and Composition in 2007. Justin Raines, 27, is a music composer from Las Cruces, NM. He graduated from New Mexico State University with my degree in Music Theory and Composition in 2007. Justin has many Wind Ensemble and Band compositions that have been performed by the NMSU Wind Ensemble, including his very popular "A Little House in Amityville," and "Peregrination." He has several choral works that have been performed by the NMSU University Singers including "The Raven" which is for choir and oboe, and "Fantasy on God Rest" which is a spin on God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. In the theatrical word, he has co-written a children's musical with guitarist Jake Mossman called "A Walk in the Desert," which was written by Ruth Cantrell of the NMSU Theater Department, and is performed yearly for young audiences. Justin also collaborated with Bradford Hodgson and Christine Sanders to bring to life "We Are Enron," a full-length musical production about the rise and fall of the Houston energy giant.

They opened the musical in February 2008 to 4 sold-out audiences and many rave reviews. With the NMSU Dance Department, he created two dance pieces for Debra Knapp including "Breaking Away," which has been performed at Texas Christian University, and "Emergence" for the art show 5 Stony Pieces Show in Las Cruces, NM. Justin has had the pleasure of working with Mark Medoff, writer and Tony Award Winner for "Children of a Lesser God," on his short feature film "100 MPG," for which Justin wrote the score. Justin has also scored numerous promotional videos for the NMSU Creative Media Institute. In the chamber music field, he has had many works performed. Justin wrote two unique Trumpet Ensemble works that were premiered at the International Trumpet Guild Conferences, including "Some High Notes, a Few Low Notes, and One Too Many Trumpets" and "Trumpet Soup." He has worked with New York musician Rachel Mason and Hugo Moreno to bring to life Rachel's thesis project "Model Anthem" for Citizens Public Television" in New Haven, Ct.

He wrote a woodwind ensemble work called "Chocolate Dream" based on a nightmare he once had. Justin has written a 30-minute chamber work called "Haunted America Suite" for Dr. James Shearer in 2007 that has been taken on tour of the Southwest since it’s completion, and will be on tour in New England in the spring of 2009. In 2009, Justin is to premiere two new major works.

In February, the NMSU Symphonic Winds will premiere “The Contention of Horus and Set,” a wind tone poem. In May, the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra will premiere “Dreams of Flight,” a symphonic overture. Also, in June 2009, the Tad Wind Symphony will premiere a wind transcription of “Dreams of Flight” in Tokyo, Japan. Justin teaches Music Theory as a Graduate Assistant at NMSU, but was accepted to the University of Nevada Las Vegas to complete his Masters in the fall of 2009. Read more on Last.fm.
