After that he traveled around Finland to take private lessons with the best jazz musicians in Finland. These private mentors included Severi Pyysalo and Seppo Kantonen, which then allowed Jussi to do all kinds of gigs, ranging from classical to jazz. After graduating from Puolalanmaki High School, he was accepted at the jazz department of Sibelius-Academy and soon after he moved to Helsinki in 2000. Jussi has studied the art of jazz piano with musicians such as Jarmo Savolainen, Jukkis Uotila, Jim Beard, Phil Markowitch, and David Kikoski among others. His wonderful classical teacher is Elzbieta Guzek from Poland. Jussi has performed in many countries including Finland, Sweden, Norway, Poland, France, Germany, Estonia, USA etc.
with talented musicians and bands like Jukka Perko, Severi Pyysalo, Eero Koivistoinen, Ron McClure, Tim Hagans, Umo Jazz Orchestra and Norrbotten Big Band. He also performs regularly with his own groups, J.F.T., Jussi Fredriksson ”Busy Turtles”, Fredator and Reactor-5. One of Jussis bands, Reactor-5, which is based on two keyboard players (Jussi Fredriksson and Aki Rissanen), won the 1st prize in Finnish Final of Young Nordic Jazz Comets in 2005. Recently Jussi has also developed his own concept for solo piano. Jussi writes most of the material for his groups and his compositions are very ambitious and highly appraised by both listeners and musicians.
