Julie is the Maltese singer whose 2004 performance got Malta to the finals of the Eurovision song contest and made her a leading pop singer in Malta and Europe, later embarking on a world tour with performances in the U.K and the United States. Her performance intrigued the BBC commentator Terry Wogan who commented “At last we hear some proper singing”. Julie was raised in Malta and grew up imitating Enya and Mariah Carey urged by her mother Monica who sadly passed away the same year Julie made her debut on TV at age 13. Julie was discovered by her songwriter uncle "Joe Julian Farrugia" who was impressed by her incredible vocal range and clever ability to interpret songs with her unique twist on phrasing. Julie extended her talents to acting and starred in many TV adverts and was in TV Series “Dejjem Tieghek Becky” for 10 episodes in 2006 - 2007.

This was the most viewed TV series in Malta at the time. After gaining a lot of publicity, Julie was offered a contract with Sony BMG in 2004 by which time she had already won various Festivals in Europe and never placed lower than 3rd in anything else. Her strong dedication to teaching and classical music led her to pull out of mainstream music to pursue further studies and completed a degree in Sociology and a Post graduate in teaching and moved to the UK shortly after. In the UK Julie restarted her music career showing influences ranging from Jazz to Dance and in 2009 gave an astounding performance of a collection of Jazz and pop numbers in an acoustic setting accompanied by a single guitar. Julie has collaborated with various major players including Roger Waters and Andrea Marongiu and has been working on a new sound with producer Owen Caruana constantly reinventing herself. Julie has recently announced the release of a new EP to hit the digital stores on the 18th November 2013 in which she is singing a mix of Jazz inspired cool alternative songs entitled “No Loving”. Julie is known for her compelling stage presence and powerful voice, which she uses to belt out power ballads and Jazz inspired pop. Read more on Last.fm.
