Julia Johnson

Julia Johnson is fast becoming a fixture of the London singer-songwriter circuit, and recognised for her unusual lyrics and candid, quirky, elegiac songs. Julia Johnson is fast becoming a fixture of the London singer-songwriter circuit, and recognised for her unusual lyrics and candid, quirky, elegiac songs. Raised on Jazz standards, Broadway showtunes, romantic piano music and 70s vinyl, she blends all these influences and adds a dose of random popular culture along the way. Most of her songs are informed by the movies in one way or another. 'Elegy', for example, is the imagined lament of Margo Channing (played by Bette Davis in All About Eve), while 'Self Help' and 'Stepford Wife' are partly inspired by 1970s Sci-fi movies. Julia is often to be found at the Bedford, the Troubadour - where she has a residency for most of 2010, the Regal Room, the Cobden Club, the 20th Century Theatre, and the Portobello Acoustic Sessions.

She has just completed work on her first solo album, produced by the remarkable Tristan Ivemy. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
