Jonny also wrote “Mi Florecita,” and re-recorded “Rosa María” with his only son John Michael, Currently Martinez is Producing Eddie Gonzalez’s CD and promises it to be a blast from the past along with his own long awaited CD Dedicated to his Mother who recently past. Lo Mejor de Jonny Martínez includes the songs that made him a sensation both in the U.S. and in Mexico starting in 1995 – hits like the block-rocking cumbia “El Ritmo de la Ola” and the down-and-dirty conjunto jam “Caminos Chuecos.” Other memorable hits on Lo Mejor de Jonny Martínez include the fun, classic title track from Ron con Coca-Cola and “Mujer Paseada,” a fiery ranchera from Mujer Mexicana. There’s also “Cumbia de la Guitarra,” a great cut from La Callejera that Jonny co-wrote with award-winning songwriter Art Guillermo. Coming full circle, Jonny Martinez has performed in 28 states including Monterrey, Mexico, a city of 3 million known as “the capital of norteño music,” but whose music scene has for years appreciated and been influenced by Tejano as well. In 2007, the road to success was narrowing for Jonny due to the lack of promotion and perseverance.
The sudden stop found himself singing for Lead Vocalist “Lee Villarreal” for Los Desperadoz while he underwent serious throat surgery. Martinez accepted this role with honor and felt it was a blessing in order for him to pursue more Education and complete his Masters in Business Administration. Jonny Martinez has produced or co-produced for Artists like Grammy Award winner Flaco Jimenez, Nick Villarreal, The Hometown Boys, Los Desperadoz, Eddie Gonzalez and Rebecca Valadez. He’s had the privilege to record acts like Jay Perez, Elida Reyna, Ram Herrera aside from 200 plus other indie solo artists and projects. Jonny has been a part of 4 Grammy Nominations including one for his Label AMI Records latin, AMI Studio and Co-Producer with Art Guillermo in 2006 for a nomination of Best Tejano Album of the Year for Rebecca Valadez. Up to date, Jonny Martinez has been nominated 4 times in 4 years and has either co-producer, been a songwriter, duet singer, AMI label owner or engineered a Grammy nominated CD thanks to Artists like Ram Herrera, Sunny Sauceda and Rebecca Valadez under Tejas Records and AMI Records between 2006-2010. An MBA graduate of University of Phoenix and BA graduate of Missouri Valley College, Martinez has contributed solely to the Tejano Industry.
Jonny is a multifaceted talent who is not only a great artist, but is also one of Tejano music’s brightest moguls.
