It’s a need that builds up inside and threatens to burst me if I don’t let it out in small doses. It reconnects me to myself, to the universe, to my Creator.

It brings me peace, and brings my friends and family joy. Because you all seem to like it. Because I enjoy exploring the spiritual landscapes of my soul and finding ways to illustrate those inner journeys with sound and rhythm. BELIEFS: I believe that there is One God, that all the world religions come from that same Source, that Science and Religion must harmonize, that all people on the planet belong to the same family – both in spirit and in material fact, that women and men are equal, that true economic justice will be established by adhering to spiritual principles not by materialistic theories and policies, that all manmade institutions and belief systems are being torn apart to make room for a new Truth, a new way of life that will uplift, ennoble, and safeguard all people, that will unify our material and spiritual realities, and that will uplift humanity to its fullest potential – the true unification of planet earth in a way that safeguards its diversity as a fundamental requirement of true unity. ON MAKING MUSIC: For me making music is like finding something, like taking a journey into sound (which is why I refer to my albums as "musical landscapes").

I start off by finding some sound, rhythm, or melody that has a texture I'd like to explore, and then I build off, around, above and below that with other sounds, melodies, and rhythms. I'm texture oriented first, melody oriented next, and structure oriented last. I'm mostly interested in creating a mood, and building towards a totality of sound built from smaller building blocks whose sum is greater than its parts. The electronic music I like to listen to is stuff I can lose myself in, something which is multi-textured and allows me to ride on different threads each time I listen to it.

The one great thing about making your own music is that you tend to make music that you enjoy. And if you're lucky (and I still have a hard time believing it about my own work) other people will enjoy what you create. I find music more than I write or compose it - it’s a spiritual process, an exploration of discovery. Like explorers of old discovering new lands, I venture into the reflection of the Universe in my own soul. While my music is expressed through the dimensions of the tools I use to create it, filtered through my experience and personal tastes, and limited by my own imperfections, I hope that some universal symbols are still visible, standing out as stars against the void.

It is my hope that others may find something meaningful or at the very least aesthetically pleasing in my music. http://jonpaulduvall.com Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
