etc... have affected, and still affect, my environs and their denizens. If I want to create art with integrity, then I must also live with integrity. I have been slogging it out in the maritimes with various outfits for over a decade, and took a year or two off from playing live shows in order to compose a commission from the Canada Council for the Arts. I will most likely have said piece - at the very least - recorded by the end of the spring/summer of 2009.
It will be much different than the music I have been associated with thus far. That being said, I am still a "rock" songwriter, and like some wrestler probably said, "you can't stop the rock". You can, however, tone it down, refine it, reflect upon it, avoid pitfalls previously succumbed to and generally add this thing called "dynamics". And so an album of new (old) material is imminent.
A few songs recorded with the excellent Improvements, some solely by myself and some with the new "big smoke" line up. To be entirely honest, I'm not sure in what format this album will be released... but it will become available digitally at the very least. Hopefully in March.
I'm pretty excited about the new stuff, and hearing the final mixes of some of the Improvements tunes we recorded SO long ago ("Cities" is one of those songs) reminds me of just how good those fellas can play. To say the least, there are going to be a lot of different sounds on the record, as it was recorded in about 4 different sessions in 3 or four different towns, over the course of the last 3 years. Somehow it all of the songs seem to have a good cohesive direction... things change/stay the same/revolve around one idea in many costumes; that old story.
