Johnny Icon

Johnny Icon was born in the late 70's, close to the end of the first glam rock era. As a child, he performed for hours in his bedroom, in front of the mirror with his guitar, pretending to be one of his icons, in a struggle to become one himself. His parents decided there was not enough room in the house so they made him play in the wasteroom. There, he would rub himself over the record covers of Manowar, Iron Maiden and Metallica while listening to ìThe final countdownî always in a loop on the radio. Read more on Last.fm

His parents decided there was not enough room in the house so they made him play in the wasteroom. There, he would rub himself over the record covers of Manowar, Iron Maiden and Metallica while listening to ìThe final countdownî always in a loop on the radio.

Ready for higher flights and with a taste of bleach on his lips he jumped out of the small cubicule, that was his stage for years, into a dark shitty rehearsal room. In 1999 Johnny decided he wanted to start his own band, he met David (Miguel Da Silva Casais), and together they started Blue Obsession. During this period they had a hard time finding suitable elements for the band and after several people coming in and out of the band, Johnny and David decided to record a demo. They sent the demo to record companies all over Europe. A few months later, they got a deal with the german gothic label Dark-Wings. They recorded a EP, but the label decided that it didn't have any commercial value as it was only a 5 tracks CD.

So this EP was never released. Thats when they changed the name of their band to ICON & the Black Roses. They released one cd. Short after this the band split up. Now Johnny Icon has moved to London working on a new solo project, a new release may happen later this year. You can access their old site for a short time here www.iconandtheblackroses.org/com. Johnny's myspace account is http://www.myspace.com/iconandtheblackrosesjohnny.
