She has been composing music on a solo basis since 2005. She works within the sonic constructs of various styles and is inspired by an eclectic group of recording, performance and visual artists. Her primary passion has always been the human voice-- and her prowess as a singer and vocalist (because she understands the distinction) is remarkable. She is as adept at conjuring the spirit of Mahahlia Jackson as she is at exhuming the raw vulnerability of a male singer, such as Johnny Cash.
She has an innate understanding of the human voice and all of its nuances, complexities and seeming contradictions. She is well-trained regarding the technical aspects of the physiology of vocal development. Her comprehension of the intuitive nature of the human voice allows this chanteuse the capacity to function as an interpretive singer. She also writes her own lyrics and music.
Aside from singing and writing songs Jenna is also an enthusiastic musician who enjoys utilizing exotic instruments; including the Harmonium as well as homemade instruments. (bio by Jeffrey Justice) she counts, among her many influecnes: Swans, Jarboe, Diamanda Galás, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Nico, PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Sinéad O’Connor, Amanda Palmer, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Brian Eno, John Cale, Lisa Germano, Sonic Youth, Bjork, Steve Reich, Laurie Anderson, Franck Balestracci, Dead Can Dance, and not to forget the films of David Lynch!
