The half-Scottish half-Cumbrian lass, now living in Manchester, is just back from taking her avant garde piano pop to the legendary South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, where she had a ball playing the British Music Embassy stage graced by V.V. Brown and Estelle the night before. Moderate Rock described the singer-songwriter’s sound as “imaginative and original”; UK Music Search rated it as “original, fresh and unique”. Perhaps Carlisle's News & Star best gets to the heart of her performances, praising them as “intimately epic”. It was PJ Harvey who first stirred in Jaca the urgent desire to be on stage, but her discovery of Tori Amos raised the piano to a platform rivalling the guitar. Jaca's debut album was one of only two self-released to appear in UK Music Search's 2006 list of top 50 albums of the year. Since then she has thrown caution to the wind and given up a promising career in journalism, leaving behind the beauty of the Lake District to follow her true passion in the thriving city of Manchester. There, in the UK's northern capital of music, she has shared the dream with fellow musicians, wowing audiences with a new exciting depth brought by guitar, bass and drums.

But Jaca has continued to capture more hearts with the intimacy of her solo performances, her ethereal appearance belying a powerful and passionate voice. She has just released her second album and has been asked to play at Solfest again this year. While compared to Regina Spektor, Kate Bush, Joanna Newsom, Fiona Apple and Imogen Heap, Jaca's fresh and exciting style is as diverse as her appeal. Read more on Last.fm.
