Since 1990 he has been conductor of the Camerata Nagano and 1993 of the Bunkyo Civic Orchestra in Tokyo. He is also a guest conductor with several orchestras in Germany and Japan. Matsushita is since 1987 professor for composition at the Tokyo University of the Arts. Since 2003 he is also a professor of contemporary Asian music associated with the Performing Arts Center.
