It is this trio that have re-emerged as Idiot Culture. Duff and the other members have been missing from the music scene for a number of years, so their re-emergence and upcoming album is highly anticipated. The album, which was mixed by the renowned Jack Endino will be released in November 9, 2010. It's full of trance-like riffs and hypnotic hooks. The sound is definately heavier nowadays, but the music is still a hybrid of seeming contradictory styles.
One minute the sound may seem metal or punkish. A few bars later the melody is overtaken by jazz chords. At times the prog rock guitar suddenly becomes a surf riff. There's always something around the bend but the pace is leisurely enough to allow the soundscape to sink in. On their debut album, Idiot Culture uses long hypnotic passages and favors guitar as a way of delivering deeply compelling sounds rather than solos.
It's all the more impressive for having been recorded live in-studio rather than recording and layering multiple tracks. Duff has long been regarded as an extraodinary guitarist with the ablilty to play several parts in unison as well as abrupt effects changes. The result here is extraordinary. The upcoming album will be available as a CD and digital downlods November 9th 2010. Read more on Last.fm.
