There is more than one artist represented here: (1) Downtempo / dark ambient / electro-industrial band from the United States, and (2 & 3) two electronic bands. 1) Hyperprism (Justin Schwemmer, aka KingMerrygold) began in Hampstead, MD in 1997 under the name N/tro/P and continued until 2000 when the name N/tro/P was instead used for industrial rock music created with guitarist Brian Zerner; Hyperprism was the name then used for Schwemmer's solo material. After N/tro/P split up in late 2002, Hyperprism stopped producing very many new songs until its reformation in 2009; this break occurred during a period of travel and schooling, including road trips across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, backpacking across India, and earning a B.A. in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Schwemmer was born in Baltimore, MD, United States in 1981 and has produced the majority of Hyperprism material in nearby Carroll County and Howard County, although some music was recorded in Los Angeles, CA.

Hyperprism is released on Lost Dead Records. Hyperprism's sound has a strong foundation in atmospheric, dark ambient, and electro-industrial with occasional experimental forays in and influences of ebm, dubstep, breakbeat, vgm, idm, glitch, downbeat, techno, trance, sound collage, plunderphonics, musique concrète, et alia. A large majority of Hyperprism songs are instrumental with some samples, but there are some tracks with vocals. Hyperprism has been inspired by bands such as Coil, Skinny Puppy, Haujobb, NON, Lustmord, Aphex Twin, Autechre, :wumpscut:, Bohren & der Club of Gore, Meat Beat Manifesto, Pigface, Download, The Orb, cEvin Key, The Legendary Pink Dots, Burial, Doctors for "Bob", Swans, Foetus, et alia, and by various occult practices. Free previews of Hyperprism tracks can be found at the label's official website, http://lostdeadrecords.com. 2) Hyperprism is also an electronic artist that has appeared on a couple of compilations in 1994: Future Music CD December and Sea of Tranquility. 3) Hyper-prism is also another electronic artist.
