What is carefully shining through now will problably establish itself more in their next album. As young musicians the Hydrofish crew is growing musically everyday. These guys have got a broad musical taste and an open-minded approach towards music which lets them appreciate some of the most peculiar compilations. Consequently their sound is influenced by a wide array of other styles and it will be interesting to see where it is going to take them.
Four of the band members: leadsinger Astrid Kunst (18), guitarist Rolf Perdok (21) and the Bos brothers, drummer Paul (22) and Sander on keys (21), have started studying at the Amsterdam conservatorium in September 2005. Bass player Laurens Knoop (19) is in his second year @ Zwolle. Due to all 5 of them studying music the band shows a suprising maturity towards producing and presenting their tracks. They are not shy to play around with the albums' songs on stage which makes for a good show for people familiar with their songs as well as others. Their live gigs are hella sweet.
Their first album might not do full justice towards what they are capable of. It is certainly not a bad album, it is a smashing poprock record. However at their gigs they've shown that they can do so much more and you can expect them to be showing us what that is soon enough. We are going to see a lot more of Hydrofish in the future.
