Within 6 months of forming, the band had won Norwich's Next Big Thing competition (previous winners inc. Ed Sheeran). On the back of this the band signed with NROne records and released their debut album "This One Girl" in April 2011 which was met with rave reviews from magazines and blogs alike.

The singles from this album received airplay on BBC Radio 6 and Amazing Radio, amongst others, from DJs including Tom Robinson, Steve Lamacq and Beth Elfyn. The band have seen interest from labels such as Alcopop and IHT Records. With fun and energetic live performances there are not many crowds Hello Bear have failed to win over. Their enthusiasm and warmth would melt the coldest of hearts. Hello Bear are currently recording their 3rd album (titled "Next Time We'll Be Deadly Serious Next Time") at popular professional Recording Studio "Regal House" with producer Lee Batiuk (Deaf Havana).

They're also half way through writing material for their 4th album. Influences: The band all have a mixture of different influences with each member coming a different musical backgrounds. However the band sight Weezer, OkGo, Los Campesinos as strong influences as well as a mixture of their own (Ska, Garage Blues, American indie, pop punk, rockabilly, jazz, dance, hardcore punk, power pop, Classic Rock). ".....There is also a natural chemistry between the band members, who are clearly enjoying themselves, and this facilitates their music’s ability to tease a grin from the most sour-faced shite. Hello Bear a band that will surely be punching smiles onto many many more faces before too long." - Donkey On A Treadmill "..........bouncier than Kelly Brook on a trampoline" - Outline Magazine Read more on Last.fm.
