Founded in 2006 by Sam Bear and Nathan Levick, a pair of college students with too much time on their hands and a love for words, Helen's Umwrath has found a niche at Washington University in St. Louis as the premiere spoken word band on the South 40. Their debut album "Speeches to Sounds, Volume 1" has produced such hits as 'Gettysburg Address,' 'Sexual Relations' and 'Dyay Di (C)ho Dyay Di Do Jung'--a Mao Zedong speech related to class warfare. The band has high hopes; they are currently seeking representation, but they plan on performing in local talent show until their eventual breakout performance on "The Today Show." Originally called Pretzel Dick, Helen's Umwrath changed their name to attract an educational audience, pay homage to the patron saint of their freshman hall, and to show that they're emo.
