Heavy Party

Heavy Party were a relatively short lived outfit (running from 2003 to summer 2004) and only played as many shows as you can count on one hand. The group was a result of friends Jack Duckworth and Andy Dixon, both local musicians and graphic designers, looking for some outlet to be in a band together. Collectively the two art responsible/part of Vancouver groups such as Radio Berlin, The Red Light Sting, The Epidemic, Secret Mommy, A Luna Red, Primes, and other countless bands that left mark on the local music scene and beyond. What their previous bands were known for were technical prowess (Radio Berlin and The Red Light Sting), pop accessibility (Radio Berlin), and appeal to a relatively wide audience. Heavy Party threw all those elements out the window to produce some of the most god awful racket this city's ever seen; humouring and entertaining themselves and others in the process.

In this project Andy stepped behind the kit for the first time ever and Jack played a guitar with a low tuning. This group also included Luc Mills (Piers Whyte), contributing a very "unique" bass playing stylel - and Michelle Matzke, who was an old DJ partner of Jack's. On top of that both Andy and Luc contributed live laptop audio manipulations and processed their final recordings through various audio mulching programs. Their sound could be described as giving a bunch of apes a drum kit and some loud distorted guitars and leaving them in a room to "get at it" - comparisons to a very drunk [insert rock band name here] come to mind as well. In 2004 Michelle left the group and local artist Keith Jones (who was part of the old Victoria scene and played with members of Frog Eyes in various bands in the 90s) took the mic and laid down some crazy shit for their 7 song recording, which is being offered as a "free" Ache Records release in December 2004 or sometime soon after. All members are still in their current other bands for the most part. Luc is now taking music in Montreal.

Michelle is part-time Hiver. Keith is still doing art. Jack and Andy may converge on a new musical project sometime in the not so distant future... Read more on Last.fm.
