The pair decided to start something new with loftier ideals and aspirations - Headway was born. They soon recruited two more members - Dave Shaggy Astbury from Riddings - not Hucknall - on bass and Johnny Dakers on drums (later replaced by David Wrights brother Jay). The material they started playing needed something else keyboard player Tom Harrison - from Bestwood Vill-age - was poached from another band (Monkfish) and the line-up was complete. The Headway sound is elegant piano mixed with a driving rhythm section and swooping rock guitars.
Beautifully crafted songs are overlaid with the unique voice and melodies of David Wright. Not just a mesmerizing vocalist, but a great front man too the kind of front man that the UK are renowned for producing. The band was started in 2014 as a joke band called "The Captain Crunch Kids" for Jarrod Alonge's Sunrise Skater Kids Cover Contest. The band consisted of guitarist/vocalist Zac Bianco, bassist/vocalist Luke Oxendale and drummer/vocalist Ricky Glenn. Following the positive reactions to their entry, the band started taking themselves more seriously and decided to record an EP, with Ricky on drums, Luke on guitar and vocals, Zac on bass and vocals, and a new member, James Ritter, on guitar. They also started playing shows and taking part in a Battle of the Bands, which they won.
On August 18, 2015, they first single, "Bridges", was released on Bandcamp. On September 28, the band changed its name from "The Captain Crunch Kids" to "Headway", because, according to the members, their former name "doesn't portray as serious of an image as (their) lyrical content does".
