HUNE

Another jewel in the crown of Rock Progressif Quebecois! HUNE appears to be the project of Daniel Couturier, who at least plays guitar, and possibly the other instruments on the album as well. The vocals are provided by André Bourget. The debut album, "De l'Autre Côté du Monde," was released in 2009. They have already begun work on their second album, which will be "a move towards our own style" (from Daniel Couturier). The band's myspace page lists influences as PINK FLOYD, GENESIS, YES, KING CRIMSON, and STEVE HACKETT. Read more on Last.fm

In the blog section of the myspace page, Couturier describes playing GENTLE GIANT and FRANK ZAPPA material on guitar in the 1970s. He also describes listening to other Quebec prog legends OCTOBRE, SLOCHE, MORSE CODE, and HARMONIUM (especially "l'Heptade"), and indeed their influence is felt on the debut album, mainly in the vocals and strong sense of melody. In fact, influence can be seen from all of the above listed bands, making eclectic an ideal location for this Quebecois band. HUNE's music can be described as melodic, atmospheric, sometimes complex, with wonderful French vocals and harmonies that remind me at times of SLOCHE's first album. Although the influences generally come more strongly from the English bands listed above, the Quebecois feel is definitely there. Read more on Last.fm.
