Hélène Labarrière is a French jazz - improvisation and musician. Labarrière grew up in Clichy-sur-Seine and at the age of 16 she started with the double bass. While studying at the conservatories of Boulogne and Gennevilliers she initially joined up with Pierre Brunel, before in 1983 she worked with the group Ladies First with Marie-Ange Martin, Micheline Pelzer and Dominique Borker. While studying at the conservatories of Boulogne and Gennevilliers she initially joined up with Pierre Brunel, before in 1983 she worked with the group Ladies First with Marie-Ange Martin, Micheline Pelzer and Dominique Borker. In 1986 she recorded with Lee Konitz and played with Daniel Humair and with the quartet of Eric Barret (with Marc Ducret ), then with the groups of Alex Grillo and Sylvain Kassap. In the early 1990s she belonged to a trio of Joachim Kühn (with Wolfgang Reisinger ), worked with Jean-Marc Padovani and Michel Portal , and with the Vienna Art Orchestra . With their own group machination, founded in 1993 with Corin Tucker and Noel Akchoté, she was successful on festivals.

With Curschellas and Benoît Delbecq , she worked in a trio Jacques et les Veuves Joyeuses. In 1998 she founded a new quartet with Sophie Agnel , François Corneloup and Mark Sanders. She currently plays in a quartet with actus Corneloup, Christophe Marguet and Hasse Poulsen. Together with John Greaves , she founded the Robert Wyatt -Dondestan project with Karen Mantler and Jacques Mahieux , with whom she in 2008 hosted the Frankfurt Jazz Festival. She was also a member of the band by Yves Robert , and recorded with him the album été (1999).
