Gustafi are a band from Vodnjan near Pula in Istra (Histria, Istria), Croatia. The band was formed in 1980 as "Gustaph y njegovi dobri duhovi" (Gustaph and his good spirits). They played alternative rock and in 1983 they achived the status of an important alternative band in the ex-Yugoslavia, but they couldn't manage to make for a living by playing that kind of music so they started to play at the same time popular and istrian folk/ethno music in hotels, restorants, on boats, on weddings... Gustafi are a band from Vodnjan near Pula in Istra (Histria, Istria), Croatia. The band was formed in 1980 as "Gustaph y njegovi dobri duhovi" (Gustaph and his good spirits). They played alternative rock and in 1983 they achived the status of an important alternative band in the ex-Yugoslavia, but they couldn't manage to make for a living by playing that kind of music so they started to play at the same time popular and istrian folk/ethno music in hotels, restorants, on boats, on weddings... Eventally, in the early 90's, their music started to evolve and these two different ways of their musical expresion started to bind in something that they like to call "Istrijanska muzička štala" (Istrian musical stable): it is a very interesting combination of rock, tex-mex, istrian ethno music, country, punk-rock, walcer and polka, rhythm-and-blues, ska music... They play all aroud Istra and in other parts of Croatia; from Istrian taverns (oštarije) to great concert halls and every their performance is a combination of great enterteinment and great music. As they continue to make their albums, their music continues to evolve and to bring something new and interesting on every recent song and album.
