Groovin Ground

Austin, TX based prog-rock/jam/funk/rock outfit. Groovin Ground has built a loyal following regionally. Started by twin brothers Evan and Dustin Bozarth along with Lionel Lucchesi, Kyle Clark, Clinton Piper and Dave Brown in 2000, Groovin Ground emerged from the ashes of a Grateful-Dead-covering house band at the now defunct THE PIER on Lake Austin, to develop an experimental and oddly original sound relying heavily on the improvisational and seat-of-the-pants ethos of most great jambands. Groovin Ground's songwriting takes cues from early prog-rockers like Genesis, 70's funk like The Meters and the Headhunters, as well as entricate oddly-timed compositions of Frank Zappa.

With the release of their debut album, DOME, and the additional of songwriter and vocalist Mo Pair, GG's sound developed a a distinct feel of whistful fantasy and epic compositional arcs. The lineup continues to evolve, including Pair's childhood friend and member of the legendary Austin trio, GRASS, Dr. Jarle Lillemon, a Norwegian born guitarist and biochemist. The group took on an even more international contingent when Polish musical-wiz-kid Grego Loboz took over on drums.

Former drummers Nick Chambers and Errick Tatuaca continue to contribute to the group periodically. Current lineup: Evan Bozarth - bass, vocals Dustin Bozarth - keyboards Mo Pair - Vocals, guitar Dave brown - Percussion Grego Loboz - drums, vocals, etc Jarle Lillemon - guitar An offshoot project of Groovin Ground was created in 2003 called THE PORTAL. The Portal is all-improvised groove-based performances featuring allstar lineups, conducted and composed in the moment by the Gatekeeper and the Keymaster. Past performances have included Pat Mastelotto, Brad Houser, Chris Forshage, eVL_e, Grego, Chris Holt, Papa Mali and many other Austin-base players. Read more on Last.fm.
