Grey Lotus is a Dutch collaboration between multi-instrumentalist Daan Arisz and vocalist Joost Verhagen, formed in Haarlem. It started off to be their studio side project during the time they were involved in progressive metal band Sinister Delirium, which disbanded over musical disagreements. Daan and Joost continued with their studio project, creating an extrordinary blend of styles, varying from Synth Pop to Drone and from Neo Classical to Death Metal and Post-Rock. Later on, they started to use instruments wich are very uncommon in rock music like Violins, Irish Flute (and other kinds of flutes), and more electronical orientated synths.

Overall, Grey Lotus creates a mellow, somewhat melancholic and dreamy atmosphere with sometimes more brutal experiments. Grey Lotus has in the meanwhile recorded 2 albums (Cyclus and The Art Of Listening), 2 EPs (The Berlin EP and Maunder Minimum II) and released 1 limited Record Store Day compilation album (Sounds in North End). All these records are available online at www.greylotus.bandcamp.com. During the recording of the second album, previously claimed to be called "His Master's Voice" but now renamed to The Art of Listening, to be released in 2010, they met up with experimental guitarist and singer/songwriter Martijn Scholte, and added him to the permanent Grey Lotus lineup.
