Graham Bowers

Graham Bowers’ approach to musical composition developed out of his life long fascination with “associative listening” (the association of sound related to life experiences) and evolved into a genre of music which he describes as "Sound Theatre". His debut album, "Of Mary's Blood" was released on the Red Wharf label. Graham Bowers’ approach to musical composition developed out of his life long fascination with “associative listening” (the association of sound related to life experiences) and evolved into a genre of music which he describes as "Sound Theatre". His debut album, "Of Mary's Blood" was released on the Red Wharf label. The first in a trilogy, "Of Mary's Blood" combined classical, contempoary, progressive and experimental music into one long continuous track. Produced and recorded with Peter Gallagher, with musical contributions from Mark Porter, it received critical acclaim from the international music press (The Wire, Audion, EST, e/i, Mouvement-Nouveau) as did all of his subsequent releases.

It was followed by "Transgression" (try Transgression ~ By thought-(i)), and the trilogy was completed with "Eternal Ghosts", featuring musical contributions from Tim Franks, Peter Gallagher, Mark Porter, Jim Keddie, and William Henshall. The CDs of each published work were accompanied with a fold-out booklet containing a triptych of his surrealistic paintings. After an absence due to a serious accident, he wrote and recorded several sound scores for fine art animation films, in collaboration with film-maker Clive Walley; these included an MTV ident and a series of “Short Shorts” for the British television channel S4C. He has also produced two of his own short films “Hiraeth” and “conception deception discovery” both of which have been shown at international film festivals. Sculpting has resulted in private and public commissions (St.

David’s Hall, the national concert theatre of Wales, The Space at Dundee) and the creation and realisation of animatronic characters for a television series in collaboration with the writer and creator of “The Bradshaws”, Buzz Hawkins. Bowers returned to creating his own full length conceptual musical compositions of "Sound Theatre" with Pilgrim. Recent works include Unresolved Issues ... released as a sixty minute full length work as an audio CD.

The music llustrates in a musical way circumstances that cannot, for whatever reason, resolve ... whether that be a social occasion, a thought process, a chemical reaction, or a piece of music ... all the ingredients are there but it just doesn't happen like one may wish for, or expect. Recent collaborations are a result of the chance meeting of Nurse With Wound's Steven Stapleton and Graham Bowers, both artists were appearing at Bangor Sound City's first art/sound event 'Wet Sounds' curated by Joel Cahen located at the Bangor Swimming Pool, North Wales, in January 2011. Both were admirers of each others past works and felt that a collaboration on a new piece of work could be an interesting and exciting prospect, consequently Rupture is the first full length work, and is released as a Double Vinyl album/LP, a CD and Download. The Vinyl album and CD have been released through Dirter and are distributed by Cargo.

Downloads are available through all the major download stores. Following on from the success of Rupture, a new work Parade is to be released in June 2013 as a CD, a special limited edition Double Vinyl album is scheduled for release in September 2013. Both will be released through the Red Wharf label and distributed by Cargo. Downloads will be available through all the major download stores in early July 2013. The musical works have been played and written about extensively in recent years, receiving extended half-hour and two-hour air-play features on national and regional radio stations in the UK, Holland, Germany, Australia and the USA.
