George Paul Blagden (born December 28, 1989) is a London-based stage and film actor. He is best known for his role of the cynical revolutionary Grantaire in the 2012 movie adaptation of Les Misérables. He also stars in the upcoming television series Vikings as the monk Athelstan. George left boarding school at 18 to train as an actor in London at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, whose alumni include actors such as Daniel Craig, Ewan McGregor and Orlando Bloom. At Guildhall, George explored the works of writers such as Anton Chekhov, William Shakespeare, Simon Stephens and David Hare, and also performed in Restoration comedy and musical theatre. The comprehensive training that he received incorporated work in voice, movement and a deeper understanding of dramatic text, as well as acquiring new skills in stage combat (in which he was awarded a Gold Medal) and various forms of improvisational work. He started singing aged 13 and performed in a number of choirs in venues such as King’s College, Cambridge and St Paul’s Cathedral.

He was also the lead singer of a rock band for three years and founded a songwriting masterclass which produced songs that were available on iTunes. George went on to produce his first album, “Dimensional” and has enjoyed singing and songwriting ever since. He recently appeared in “Opening Doors”, a selection of new Musical Theatre writing at the Soho Theatre. George completed his training at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in June 2011 to begin filming “The Philosophers” in Indonesia, directed by John Huddles and produced by An Olive Branch Productions. In November, he then worked on “Wrath Of The Titans”, the sequel to “Clash Of The Titans” starring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes. In January, George was cast as Grantaire in the upcoming film adaptation of the musical phenomenon “Les Misérables”, directed by Academy Award winning director Tom Hooper (“The King’s Speech”) and starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen and Eddie Redmayne.

“Les Misérables” is set for release in the US on 14th December 2012 and in the UK on 11th January 2013. Most recently, George has been cast in a new television series being produced by MGM and the US History Channel called “Vikings”, a 9 episode drama set for release in the US in the middle of next year. Filming started in July. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply..
