Whereas their precursor band was based in '60s music, Further was more a kin to such '90s alt-rock icons as Nirvana, Sonic Youth, and Dinosaur Jr. The Rademaker brothers issued several releases under the Further name during the mid- to late '90s, including such titles as Grip Tape, Sometimes Chimes, Grimes Golden, and Next Time West Coast. After splitting up Further, Brent and Darren formed Buffalo Springfield-esque group The Tyde, while Brent also formed the country-pop group Beachwood Sparks. Since 1998, they've been deafening audiences in their hometown of Sydney (amongst national and internatial tours) with their blend of intricate guitar-driven rock and avante-leanings. Their staunch adherence to evolving their particular "sound" has made Further the sort of band that will go down as more than just a punk band, and in years to come, they will be seen as a classic Australian act. Consisting of brothers Leo and Matt Coyte on guitar/vocals, bassist Andrew Cowland, and drummer Darren Skelsey, Further are unpredictable and unwilling to bend to trends. They've been described as "Unfashionable and untameable" by the UK's Rocksound, one of the ten Australian bands to watch by NME and their record Further! made it into Rolling Stone's Top 50 Records of 2005. Since their debut The Crow Road, they've released a solid slew of records, all criltically acclaimed. The self titled Further! is their latest, and their most focused and song-driven to date.
