All three founding members were bass players in their former groups, which resulted in the band name Freebass being adopted. The group was formed in 2005 and had significant difficulties finding a vocalist but in 2007 recruited Gary Briggs of Haven. The debut EP Two Worlds Collide ep was finally released digitally in March 2010, followed by the LP It's a Beautiful Life in April. Both were released in physical CD form in August and September 2010 respectively. After Rourke's official departure in 2010, the band's line-up settled to: Gary Briggs (vocals & guitar), Peter Hook (bass), Mani (bass), Nat Watson (guitar), Paul Kehoe (live drums) and Phil Murphy (keyboards).

Briggs, Hook & Mani, the core trio, appeared in all promotional photographs / interviews. The band had officially split on 10th September 2010 after numerous personal attacks against Peter Hook were written by Mani via his Twitter account on the previous day. Mani has since apologised for his remark, stating that his comments were "out of character" and that it was a "venomous, spiteful reaction to a lot of things that are going on in my life right now and I chose to vent my frustrations and anger at one of my true friends in this filthy business, and ventured into territory which was none of my concern". Peter accepted Mani's apology, saying "Mani is a great friend of mine and he always will be. I have the utmost respect for him as a person and musician.

Have none of you ever fallen out with somebody you love?" b) Freebass (born Chris Sherman) is a bass player who played in and with various bands and artists at various points in time. He released one album (in 1998) under the name Freebass, "Ultra-violet impact", before starting to call himself Freekbass. Freebass/Freekbass played and collaborated, among others, with the following bands and artists: Bootsy Collins, Buckethead, SHAG (co-founded by Freebass/Freekbass) and Sleep Theatre c) After a twelve-year retirement from Duran Duran and the music industry in general, drummer Roger Taylor formed Freebass. Freebass performed a few live gigs in Birmingham, England, and recorded a handful of songs, some of which appeared on their only single Love Is Like Oxygen, a song originally made famous by The Sweet. The band dissolved after only nine months, even though their single spent some time in the top ten of the UK Dance Chart.
