Fractal Jack

Fractal Jack are an energetic metal outfit hailing from the Central Scotland area. A five piece with a solid rhythm section and powerful guitar driven sound, they count many bands as influences but cannot be easily pigeon-holed with any particular style. Metal Hammer came close in 2000, describing the band as "flesh-ripping Deftones meets Slayer", but with each subsequent recording a neat description of Fractal Jack falls further from reach. Seeing them live is without doubt the best way of experiencing Fractal Jack, the songs burst in to life and anything (seriously) can happen. The Jack play as many gigs as they can around Scotland (although they seem to be liked most in Glasgow) and they love it when people come to see them.

They also have an extensive back catalogue of recordings, most of which are available for free, either from their home site site or one of the many pages set up on music networks. The Fractal Jack story started back in 1996 in Stirling when Phil, The Chief and Frankie (drums) formed The Feds. Soon bass player Jeff and naughty vocalist Gav were recruited and the band started to take shape. Frankie left mid '97 to be replaced by experienced nutter Justin in time for the band to clinch vicory in the Central Region Inter-School Rock and Pop Competition. Following that, Jeff returned to America (and now plays in The Kudzu Wish) to be replaced by Faz 'Faziemaize' Farrington (or Phillipe Jack Faziemaize as most of us call him), the prodigal son of Ozzy.

Since then the Jack have parted company with Justin (he now plays for Kalamazoo), with old Left Hand Element boy Andy taking over in late 2002 as the new drum-station. Fractal Jack have never been known to take themselves too seriously and playing gigs is probably more fun for them than their various bemused audiences, but they don't let that stop them. FJ love maximum heaviness, the Bru, and all you crazy guys. So love them. Please. Read more on Last.fm.
