Foamfoot

On January 8, 1994, Chris Robinson and Marc Ford of the Black Crowes participated in an impromptu performance with a handful of other artists. They dubbed themselves Foamfoot and performed a one-off show at the Troubador in Hollywood where they played classic rock covers. The show was recorded for potential release, but was never officially released. High-quality bootlegs, however, have circulated widely for years among tape traders and Black Crowes fans, in general. The lineup consisted of: -Chris Robinson (vocals, harmonica) and Marc Ford (guitar) of the Black Crowes -Jimmy Asshurst (bass) of the JuJu Hounds and (after Foamfoot) Buck Cherry -Andy Sturmer (drums) of Jellyfish -Eric Bobo (percussion) who played with Cypress Hill and the Beastie Boys -Gary Louris (guitar) of the Jayhawks -David Crosby (vocals & guitar) of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills, & Nash (and CSNY), who joined the band on stage to perform the CSN classic, "Long Time Gone" The setlist included: Walk in My Shadow (Free) Bottle Of Red Wine (Derek and the Dominoes) Tin Soldier (The Small Faces) Take The Highway (Marshall Tucker Band) Deal (Jerry Garcia) Love Me Til The Sun Shines (The Kinks) Long Time Gone (with David Crosby) (Crosby, Stills and Nash) Jemima Surrender (The Band) One Way Out (The Allman Brothers) Presence of the Lord (Blind Faith) Chris Robinson had previously performed onstage with David Crosby in 1993, shortly after Crosby got out of prison.

They played at the Whiskey and the performance was released on the live album, "Its All Coming Back to Me Now..." Chris Robinson, Marc Ford, Andy Sturmer, and Jimmy Ashhurst would later work together on another side project, going by the name Sweet Pickle Salad. The Sweet Pickle Salad lineup also included Craig Ross (who played guitar for Lenny Kravitz) and Roger Manning (of Jellyfish) on keyboards, along with an unnamed 15-year-old flute prodigy. Like the Foamfoot performance, the studio sessions for the unreleased Sweet Pickle Salad album have circulated widely in bootleg form. Read more on Last.fm.
