The Sleeping Sonqztq was a collaboration with producer grnr (Gavin Thomson), who was later to join the band permanently on bass. The band's first major label release was a double A-side on One Records/SonyBMG, and is a marked contrast from their first album which is much more downbeat and electronic compared to their later sound.

An album for One Records, Demon Seed, is slated for release in 2007. 2005 saw Flying Matchstick Men play the T in the Park music festival, headlining the T-Break stage. In 2006 the band embarked on their first UK tour, in addition to supporting Sleater-Kinney and labelmates El Presidente (band). Flying Matchstick Men are often referred to as "The Matchsticks" by their fans and contemporaries.
