Ex-members of arguably Cork’s first punk band Nun Attax Finbarr Donnelly (vocals) and Ricky Dineen (guitar) met guitarist Mick Stack in 1981 and began to play together, soon after adding cellist Una Ni Chanainn who’d they’d seen performing in a play with Mick Lynch (of the Mean Features). This line up evolved into Five Go Down to the Sea? In 1982 with another Nun Attax member Keith “Smelly” O’Connell on drums. The following year they released the Knot a Fish EP on Irish label Kabuki and moved to London, with Una staying in Cork. Read more on Last.fm

The following year they released the Knot a Fish EP on Irish label Kabuki and moved to London, with Una staying in Cork. 1983 brought The Glee Club EP on Abstract and a cult following along with it.

By 1984 they became one of the earliest bands to release a single on Creation Records, titled Singing in Braille, and then split the following year. Mick Stack moved to the USA, Smelly withdrew from music and moved back to Cork, while Donelly and Dineen remained in London and inactive, until the formation of Beethoven several years later.
