Firetown was a short lived pop group based out of Madision, WI, that released 2 albums during their duration: 1987's "In the Heart of the Heart Country" and 1989's "The Good Life". Neither album reached a massive level of commercial success (although both were critically praised) and the group disbanded in 1990. It was at this point drummer Butch Vig focussed his attention on production at his facility Smart Studios. The next few years would see Vig become hugely successful lending production to many hit albums such as Nirvana's "Nevermind" and the Smashing Pumpkings "Gish".

In 1993 after putting together remix albums and writing new music with friend Steve Marker, they thought it would be fun to start playing again, it was at this point Firetown's Doug (Duke) Erikson rejoined the duo of Vig and Marker and after some auditions chose vocalist Shirley Manson to round out the band that would become Garbage. The rest is history... Sadly for this band its music fails to get the praise it deserves, even today due to being in the shadow of the massive success of Garbage. For any die hard Garbage fan though, this is certainly a band worth checking out. Read more on Last.fm.
