The history of Finis Africæ was born in 1982 in a small 4-track tape recorder, where Juan Arteche Gual investigates new ways of making music after leading at the helm of the group Folk Nuestro Pequeño Mundo for 15 years. It's about making a change to sound less formal structures, in search of the dream landscape and eclectic adventure. In 1984 their first album shows Finis Africæ “Prima Travesía” made with Javier Bergia, Luís Delgado and a bunch of friends who went through the floor where Arteche Gual recorded as unusual work, the critical adjective then as unclassifiable. In 1985 appears “Un día en el parquet”, recorded with Juan Carlos Fdez-Puerta as a tribute to the legendary Parque de El Retiro in Madrid, and which merges old memories of childhood, a journey of 24 hours in its most magical.

By 1990 appears the third work, this time, on the the itinerary is the Amazon (album: “Amazonia”), where they turn the moments lived on a spiritual journey through the lungs of the Earth, in the company of special guest Javier Paxariño. In 1996, the rites, the landscapes and traditions of the deep Iberia meet in “Campos de sol y luna”, fourth album dedicated to the contemplation of the Spanish countryside. Finis Africæ as sound research workshop, had never been out of imagination of its creator, Juan Arteche Gual, and, after 12 years, in 1996 he toured the best festivals of Nuevas Músicas as quartet (Juan Arteche Gual, Juan Carlos Fdez Puerta, Javier Bergia and Markus Breuss ) harvesting in these concerts, surprises and ambiguous reactions, good account of this is his last two albums, F.A. “Concierto de Lanzarote”, “El viento que mece los juncos" and “Retales y Apuntes”. Currently, Finis Africæ’s history has returned to the shelves of the library, where books are placed most fantastic adventures. Read more on Last.fm.
