Era Escape

Era Escape is best described in a fan’s words as "Bowie and Queen meet the Top Gun soundtrack." Era Escape is best described in a fan’s words as "Bowie and Queen meet the Top Gun soundtrack." If you took the glammed-up firepower of Def Leppard or Europe, the interstellar prog of Genesis or King Crimson, and topped it all off with a healthy pop sensibility, you might get something that sounded like Era Escape. Era Escape is the dreamchild of guitarist and songwriter Ian Stahl. After squandering away his adolescence on fantasy novels, Dungeons & Dragons, and Queen albums, he turned to music when he realized that he could just as well create science fiction fantasies through songwriting as he had through role-playing games. If Ian is the brains, drummer Ben Brown is the brawn. For four summers, Ben spent seventy hours a week in drum corps, perfecting the brutal chops that won him a drum corps championship. Ben isn’t only strength, though - Ian noticed Ben’s sophisticated playing at a jazz workshop where he recruited him to join Era Escape. Bassist Michael Kaiser-Nyman heard of Era Escape from a Craigslist ad.

Initially impressed with the demos on the band’s MySpace, Michael almost bailed after Ian sent him a rough cut for an audition song that sounded like “some emo shit.” At the audition, however, the song turned out to be a mastermind piece of power pop. After geeking out about jazz and music theory with Ben and Ian, the deal was sealed. Singer and keyboard player Dashiell Worfolk followed Michael's footsteps on the Craigslist trail and rounded out Era Escape with his double synthesizers and wailing vocals. Dashiell's love of classic rock and music theory nerd-dom made him right at home in the band. With its final member in place, Era Escape set out on the current path of world rock domination that it continues today.

Era Escape is based out of San Francisco and plays shows around the Bay Area and beyond, including Sacramento and Santa Cruz. For booking, email booking [at] eraescape [dot] net.
